Is it because the question specifically mentioned "Southern blot", and we should realize this procedure uses restriction enzymes that cleave DNA at palindromic sequences?Īdd restriction enzymes to fragment the DNA sequences Does anybody have advice on how to identify these sequences more quickly and efficiently? Now my main question, when I then attempted to detect palindromic sequences, it took me WAY too long and I had to move on. In hindsight I realize my approach was incorrect, but how can we determine from reading this question to initially preclude this approach from consideration? Is it because the question specifically mentioned "Southern blot", and we should realize this procedure uses restriction enzymes that cleave DNA at palindromic sequences? BUT, just because a restriction site no longer exists due to a disappearance of a palindromic sequence, why does that necessitate the resulting protein is necessarily NONFUNCTIONAL? So for this question, when I read that a single point mutation results in a NONFUNCTIONAL protein, I assumed a single nucleotide must have been replaced such that a STOP codon resulted, so I scanned all of them for a UGA/UAA/UAG sequence but found none. I seem to always struggle with questions related to palindromic sequences. ![]() /r/GAMSAT - Australian & UK Medical school Admission Test.P/S = Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior (Tentative) AAMC Sample FL Score ConversionĬ/P = Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological SystemsĬARS = Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skillsī/B = Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems # Correct -> Scaled Score Converter for AAMC Material These posts will be removed and the user banned without warning, subject to the discretion of the mod team Learn MoreĪll of the above rules are subject to moderator discretion High Yield MCAT Links You have signed an examinee agreement, and it will be enforced on this subreddit.ĭo not intentionally advertise paid or free products or services of any sort.
